Evaluation Q1. In what ways does your media product, develop or challenge forms or conventions of real media products?

Forms;
Facebook/Twitter (social media)
Magazine website - www.honkeytonk.co.uk
Printed copy
Mobile (downloadable)
Subscription

I have decided to use these forms, as it appeals to my target audience. Social media is a big part of teenagers and young peoples lives, at this moment in time, so my magazine will be easy to access online. Using a wide range of forms, means my magazine could attract a bigger audience. I think that it will attract more people, as it can be accessed online, and it gives people a chance to read the magazine, without going out to buy it. It also gives people who are into Country and Western music, a chance to read a music magazine, that is based on that music genre. As I know there is not a music magazine, out there like mine. Especially not a modern one, and as it can be accessed online I think it will be more appealing to the younger generation, which of course is my target audience.

Conventions;
Models costume - I chose to dress my model/s in the clothes they have been photo shot in, because it links in to my music genre, it represents the Country & Western theme.
Colours - the colours that I have chosen to use for my front cover, are bright and bold as these are the sorts of colours that will attract my target audiences eyes, they also link into the Country and Western theme, which will appeal to my target audience.
Masthead - I have put my masthead right across the front page at the top, as this is the first thing that I want my target audience to see.
Fonts - I have chosen fonts that fit in with the genre of music I have chosen, and titles are bold which make them stand out.
Pugs - I have used a bar code, issue, date and price, which you can find on any magazine.
Model looking into camera - I have done this as it makes the photo look more professional, and the magazine.

Conventions developed;
Banners - I added a banner to the top and the bottom of my front cover. This makes my magazine look more professional and it makes the page stand out a bit more. It is also appealing to my target audience, as the banner includes features.
Images - I added an image on the front cover, of one of my models that was featuring in the magazine, down the left hand side of the magazine, with information about why he was one to look out for. I did this as it makes my magazine stand out more, and it will appeal to my target audience, as the front cover isn't just all text now.
Subscription box on contents page - I added this to let the readers know that they could subscribe to the magazine, and by doing this they could get it a at a cheaper price. This will attract my target audience, as they are young and they would do anything to save money. It stands out on the page, and it even has a QR code which you can scan and it will take you directly to a certain page, which is advanced technology so this will obviously appeal to younger people.
Puns - I added puns to make the magazine more realistic. Anyone who reads the puns could be automatically dragged in to reading the double page spread, which is the main feature. They may be attracted to finding out more.

Conventions broke;
I don't really think I have broke any conventions, but I may have challenged them by listing most of my features in a column down the left hand side of my magazine page. Most magazine's usually put most features down both sides, or around the image. I have added a few on the right hand side, but most of them are on the left.

What worked?
I think the features worked well and I like how I presented them on the page, in a neat column, although a few were scattered across the page, so they stood out. The features worked for me because they appeal to a younger target audience, festivals, interviews, winning tickets, are just a few. The colours and fonts I used are different throughout the features so it didn't look too boring, colours attract peoples attention.
I think the main image on the front cover worked too, the model is looking straight into the camera she is wearing clothes which represent the music genre, and she is holding a prop which also represents my music genre. The model is young which will attract my target audience. I loved the masthead too, the font I chose for the masthead was a downloadable font which was listed under 'WESTERN' fonts, which ovbiously links in to my music genre. The masthead is right aross the page, it looks big and bold which will make it the first feature the target audience look at, which was my aim. It stands out a lot on the white background, and the font is also all capital letters which makes it stand out even more. I also liked the idea of having pun quotes which relate to my double page spread, the quotes were inspiring and they stood out on the front page and on the double page spread.

What could I of added to make my magazine better?
I think I could of added more pictures to my magazine, I only have five pictures included within the magazine, (front cover, contents page and double page spread) and the five pictures were two different models, I think I could of added in a extra model and photoshot them in a unique location or I could of changed the costume of one of the models I had and photoshot them in a different location. I could of captured a shot of the countryside and used that in my magazine as this location is stereotypical to Country and Western.

Evaluation Q3. What kind of insitution might distribute your media product and why?

https://prezi.com/smasr1oblpec/institution-post/

Development Hell stood out for me the most, as they produce music magazines, and they target younger people like me. They have experience, they are global. They don't have anything like my magazine on the market, as they only publish dance music from what I have seen. I think this institution would be the best for me and I think it would do well with the experience that Development Hell have. The magazines they produce only focus on one genre, which is dance music, which is exactly what my magazine does it only focuses on Country and Western, this means that the target audience will know what to expect. The target audience for this distribution are young which would be a bonus allowing the target audience to access my magazine digitally, as the young generation are into all things technical, so this would be a success. Development Hell are also a success, the magazines they produce are good quality and they have lots of features that appeal to the target audience, the features were one of the reasons that made it clear who my target audience were, as I tried to aim them at the younger generation.

Development Hell have also produced tour brochures  for popular artists, which shows they are capable of doing pretty much everything, and they have lots of experience.

Evaluation Q4&Q5. Who would be the audience for you media product? + how did you attract/address your audience?

What do I feel worked best to attract my target audience?
I think that the features worked the best, I really thought about what people aged 16 - 24 would like to see in a magazine, as Country and Western fans. The features were related to the music genre and they would all appeal to my target audience. I made sure the main features all stood out, with the colour and font choice, they looked attractive and noticeable. The features stood out for me, so I think they would stand out for people my age which are my target audience.

Evaluation Q6. What have you learnt from the technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Wordle is a site that you can use to brainstorm ideas, Wordle helped me come up with an idea for my preliminary task, as I put all the words that I associated with college/student life into a Wordle and that is how I came across a masthead. Wordle was useful for me, and it does help brainstorm ideas that you associate with a certain topic. The topic used for the Wordle above is technology.

Prezi is another site that I learnt to use to distribute my research for my preliminary task and final product. This particular screen shot of my prezi was used to explain my choice of instution to distribute my magazine. I found prezi easy to use, it wasn't complicated. It was a nice way of presenting my work, it looked professional and interesting without having to add loads of images and fancy writing. It was a neat and easy way of presenting my work, and I think the final product looked good. I hadn't used prezi prior to using it for my preliminary and final product task, but I did find it easy to use, I just thought it was quite time consuming, but the final product of showing my research it looked better presented this way, I did use prezi more than once and I liked using prezi. I thought it was similar to a power point presentation but it was easier to present text.

Another use of technology I was new to was Adobe Elements/Photoshop. I did find this quite tricky to get used to, and even know I am not 100% confident with using it, as it has a lot of tricks and tools with it. This program allowed me to put my magazine together. I made my three pages on this program, everything that is on the pages has been put together because of this program. I think it is a super program to have, it did make my pages look professional and the tools allowed me to do certain things to my magazine, example, adding banners and puns.

Flickr was a site which allowed me to present my powerpoint so that other people could view it, it also allowed me to get a URL for it so I could add it to my blogger easily. I thought flickr was very easy to use, and I would certainly use it again to present my research.
